Kids Room

From Concept to Completion
A multifunctional children’s room that combines creativity, comfort, and calm in a compact space. From moodboard and digital sketches to a 3D layout in SketchUp, the focus was on natural light, efficient space planning, and child-friendly zones for sleeping, playing, and creating. Soft colors, thoughtful details, and flexible design make this room a place where children can feel comfortable and thrive.
Planning Process
The children’s room was designed to optimally support the daily life of three children. In addition to providing sleeping areas for all, there needed to be ample storage for toys, clothing, and craft supplies, while also creating bright, inspiring play zones.
A custom-built, low-height workspace offers children aged 2 to 6 the perfect surface for painting, crafting, and playing. It is modular and can later be adapted to the children’s growth with additional supports. Storage is cleverly integrated into shelves, under the workspace, and beneath the bed, while small bookshelves provide a decorative yet practical overview of favorite books. For special moments, a cozy hideaway was created under a bed, which can also be playfully transformed into a little shop.
After creating a moodboard and initial sketches as a guideline, the project moved into 3D planning in SketchUp. This allowed all furniture to be placed with precise measurements, materials to be tested, and costly mistakes to be avoided. Technical drawings with dimensions, item numbers, and color codes were then prepared – a valuable resource for the implementation phase that also provides craftsmen with clear guidance.
